Safety is not a cost line

How we organise a site: training, equipment, coordination and daily checks on temporary works.

In construction, safety is often described as a box to tick. In site practice it is an organisational variable: a safe site is an orderly site, and an orderly site is also a faster one.

How we put it into practice

Training before access. Nobody enters a site without the training required for their role. Scaffolding erection requires the specific training under Annex XXI of Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008.

A site safety plan that matches reality. The plan is not a document to be filed away: it is updated whenever the works change and read through with the crews before critical phases.

Daily checks on temporary works. Scaffolding, edge protection, protection of openings and site traffic routes are checked at the start of each day, not only when the safety coordinator visits.

Coordinating interfaces. Where several firms are working, overlapping activities are planned in advance. Most serious accidents come from uncoordinated activity, not from individual mistakes.

A clean site, with materials stored where they are needed and routes kept clear, reduces accidents and at the same time reduces dead time and damage to work already completed. That is why safety is not treated as a cost separate from the rest of the contract.
